It’s just an unfortunate circumstance of life’s follies that summer and the peak of hurricane season happen at the same time. When most families are able to take time off and go for a Caribbean cruise, mother nature seems to focus her wrath on our favorite balmy tropical area too. With hurricane season running between June 1 and November 30 every year, it is probably likely that you will be booking your cruise during a time when a threat of a hurricane is possible. As the premier choice for Miami cruise parking, we only wish for your cruise to be as enjoyable and safe as possible. If you do decide to take that chance, there are a few things you should know about hurricane season that you’re not likely to read about in any cruise brochures.
- 97% off all hurricanes occur during the actual season though they are more likely to happen from mid-August to mid-September along the East coast of the US and from mid-August through early November in the western edge of the Caribbean.
- If you happen to be at sea when a hurricane hits, it is likely that your cruise ship will simply move to another area. Because they are equipped with some of the most state-of-the-art weather predicting technology, your crew is able to know well ahead of time and make the decision to reroute.
- If your cruise should be delayed or rerouted due to a hurricane, you’re not officially entitled to a refund. That being said, most cruise lines often offer cruisers offers, pro-rated costs and reductions of rates to those that were put out by a storm. Many will offer credit for future credits too.
