You can point them out on almost any deck of any cruise ship anywhere; those couples and families that have cruise vacations down to a science. They’re relaxed, smiling and getting along with each other. They are enjoyed by both other cruise-goers and ship crew alike. They know how to tip, never sunburn, are always on time for activities and meal times and generally know what the heck they are doing. Generally, they’ve learned a thing or two during their previous cruises and now just how to get the most out of their vacation. As Miami’s premier cruise port parking, we’ve picked up on a few of their secrets for a smoother, more enjoyable cruise. Here are just a few:
- Get to Miami the night before. If you’ve ever missed the boat because of a late flight, bad weather or traffic delays you wouldn’t be the first. Make sure to avoid unseen frustrations that keep you from getting to your ship on time by getting in to your port city the night before and rest easy.
- Avoid being poolside. Where this tip seems contradictory to your cruising enjoyment, the pool area actually becomes one of the most overly-crowded areas of any cruise ship; especially those that are family-friendly. If you just have to soak your toes, seek out adult-only areas of your cruise ship for less crowded poolside areas. Loungers can also be found along less-used areas of the deck that are further away from pools.
- Have it your way. When it comes to dining we don’t mind borrowing from a certain fast food’s mantra. Dining with strangers that you can’t get away from while on board can get monotonous. Choose to eat onshore if the ship is at port later at night. Choose to eat at least one or two breakfasts and/or lunches on your private patio by ordering room service.
- Stay put and away from ports of call. We know what you’re thinking: why would I take a cruise to the Caribbean if I don’t get to enjoy the Caribbean. But the nasty truth is that you’ll barely get much out of your visit to any given port and staying on board actually gives you the chance to take advantage of amenities that are often far too crowded at other times. Go to the spa, get a massage or get poolside if it really means that much to you.
- Get a spa pass. If solitude and rejuvenation is a priority for you while cruising then ask about the availability of spa passes. These passes often allow you a day’s use of steam rooms, therapy pools and other amenities.
- Experience new things. Let yourself go and try something you never have before. Try your hand at the driving range, give zip-lining a go where available, even visit the ship’s disco and dance the night away. After all, you are on vacation and what else are vacations for, if not for making memories and experiences.
